You’re in the Game: EA Announces VRSports, the Ultimate Virtual Reality Experience for EA Sports

The VRSports headset, purpose-built for the EA Sports franchise, launches summer 2024

REDWOOD CITY, CALIFORNIA, March 27, 2024 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) today announced the VRSports – a virtual reality (VR) headset dedicated to providing the ultimate VR experience on EA Sports titles. With industry-leading field of vision and full-body motion tracking, gamers can now truly step into the shoes of their favorite athletes. Jointly developed with Pimax, a leading VR headset company, the VRSports will be available online and in stores across North America and Europe this summer for $499 and €549, respectively.

The PC versions of all EA Sports titles will be fully compatible with the VRSports at launch, with compatibility expanding to all major gaming platforms by the end of 2024. All EA Sports titles will be optimized to provide player-centric camera perspectives that leverage the full power of the VRSports. EA will also debut its VR-based multiplayer mode, allowing VRSports users to seamlessly connect to play EA Sports titles cooperatively or competitively.

The VRSports is EA’s first foray into VR. “We believe the future of gaming lies in VR, and with the VRSports we are confident of bringing the beloved legacy of EA Sports to a new generation of gamers while providing our existing fans with a new experience on classic titles,” said Andrew Wilson, chairman and chief executive officer of EA. “We are delighted to debut the VRSports in the PC gaming market, which has historically been a strong EA advocate.”

Here is a full list of the VRSports’ features –

  • Full-body motion tracking: This feature will provide a more immersive and realistic experience as players will be able to physically mimic the movements of athletes, like taking a shot in hockey or executing a free kick in soccer.
  • Extended field of vision: Powered by two 2000 x 2040 LED displays, the 150° field of vision will allow players to perceive the entire playing field or court without turning their heads as much, mimicking the natural peripheral vision of athletes.
  • Haptic feedback: Advanced haptic feedback systems allow the VRSports to simulate the physical sensations of various sports activities, such as the vibration of a hockey stick hitting the puck or the sensation of heading a soccer ball.
  • Player-centric camera perspectives: Experience unique camera perspectives that put you directly in the athletes’ shoes, like the first-person view from a quarterback’s perspective in Madden NFL or a goalie’s in NHL.
  • Spatial audio: Featuring Dolby Atmos, the most immersive spatial audio technology developed by Dolby, players will experience a realistic soundscape in which every detail, from the cheers of the crowd to the grunts of the players, is crystal clear.
